Media Release: APSARA Rhythmic Quilt Project Documentary Premieres at Stockton’s Pacific Theatre on February 18, 2007 4PM
Stockton, CA - Asian Pacific Self Development and Residential Association (APSARA) presents the World Premiere of APSARA Rhythmic Quilt DANCE! Project Documentary on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at 4:00PM at Pacific Theatre at University of the Pacific (Pacific), hosted by The Jacoby Center for Public Service and Civic Leadership.
The documentary celebrates APSARA’s Rhythmic Quilt Dance Project, a project with a goal to preserve cultural and tradtional dances of particular regions in Southeast Asia, such as Cambodia, the Hmong people, Laos, and The Philippines. Young children and teenagers from the community (particularly the Cambodian community of Park Village) are trained these cultural and classical dances. Candid interviews with APSARA’s Executive Director Sovanna Koeurt, instructors, coordinators, and dancers are interspersed with various dance performances by the young dancers. Since 1989, APSARA has served more than 1000 Park Village low-income residents by providing affordable housing and multi-cultural programs that benefits the residents’ social and economical needs. APSARA has continued to collaborate with local city and community organizations to provide services for under-served families. The Rhythmic Quilt Dance Project was funded in part by the New Connections Fund - a grant from The James Irvine Foundation. This commemorative documentary is made by Stockton’s Cambodian-American Artist Sophoan Sorn. Doors open at 3:30PM. A light reception will follow the Premiere.
Seats are limited. Tickets are $10.00 each and are available at University of the Pacific Box Office, on Pacific’s online box office at http://pacifictigers.tix.com and by phone (209) 946 - 2474.
